Foundations

I am excited to let you all in on something I’ve been working on for over a year. Maybe three years ago, the idea to write a longer format Bible study popped into my head. I didn’t really have much direction, just an idea. Then the Pandemic hit in early 2020, which shifted my thinking a bit. Hebrews 6:1-2 really began to settle into my heart.

Therefore let us leave the elementary doctrine of Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, and of instruction about washings, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment.

I started studying those teachings, and began piecing together a skeleton that would ultimately become Foundations.  I’ve taught portions of this to small groups as a kind of field test, and the response was encouraging.

Originally I wasn’t going to make it publicly available and just use it at my church and in small groups. But, as I got close to finishing, I couldn’t think of a good reason to NOT give it away. With that in mind, as I wrote this I did not really do any formal citations, footnotes, or references because it was originally going to stay offline and in-house. Now that I’m making it available for free, instead of spending hours and hours pouring back through my materials to insert references and footnotes (and totally mess up the layout of my document and throw off the page count), I’m providing a list of Bible translations, pastors, teachers, podcasts, books, and other sources who were helpful along the way.
